Castelli Superleggera bib short short men (Progetto X2 Air- seat pads)

Castelli has been pushing the boundaries of lightweight bib shorts since 2011, but in doing so they have pushed the limits of durability. They had to step back and find a better way.

They analyzed what really matters: the pants have to hold the seat pad securely in place, with the least possible use of fabric (i.e. weight), but of course without becoming transparent. It must survive at least one full season of tough (racing) use. That's why Castelli has developed a brand new material, a woven fabric that is already 30% lighter than knitted fabrics, with the same support and privacy. They then worked with the world's leading factory to construct a gradient fabric that gets progressively lighter as the leg lengthens, with the final piece weighing just 90g/m² compared to regular short weave which weighs around 220g/m².

This fabric is insanely light but retains reasonable durability and excellent abrasion resistance, at least against the saddle. Castelli does not guarantee against unplanned slipping over the asphalt.

Note that while the short only sheds 48 grams when drying, it also absorbs about 30% less moisture when you sweat. So if you sweat your way up to Alpe d'Huez, you'll even save up to 150 grams. These shorts don't compromise on comfort.
